WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:
Our service is free to members of the Missoula Grain and Vegetable Co.
To become a member, please sign up for a quarter or full share of vegetable deliveries.
You are decreasing the waste coming from your household, which in turn sends less waste to the Allied Waste landfill, therefore decreasing your carbon dioxide and methane emissions. Our two-step composting process (anaerobic fermentation and aerobic decomposition) will transform your scraps into complex chains of carbon that enhance many of the sustainable food growing techniques practiced by the Missoula Grain and Vegetable Co. This program can be used to decrease your home’s carbon and waste footprints.
We provide your home with several clean buckets and lids to begin your collection process. The composting method used is called bokashi. We will briefly train each participant in this composting process. We will provide a laminated list of acceptable food scraps to review and post in your kitchen. We will also provide bokashi bran. Simply put in food scraps through out the day and sprinkle on a tablespoon of bokashi as the end of each day.
Pickup is simple. When you come to pick-up your weekly delivery of produce, don’t forget to bring your bucket of food scraps. We will exchange your full bucket for an empty one so that you can continue the flow of food waste to our farm soils.
DURING THE OFF-SEASON
We will discontinue pick-ups in October after your last food delivery day. But we are happy to assist you in connecting with a curbside composting business and/or assist in the construction of your own composting system at home.
We're glad you are interested in participating! Feel free to call or email Max Smith with any questions at 406-214-6664, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
